Social Rehabilitation of Rural Communities in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil
The aim of this project is to develop integrated actions to promote social rehabilitation via associations and rural community cooperatives in the regions of the hydrgraphical basins of Paranaibas rivers. Recently, GC Brazil has completed the final phase of the community development project, which began phase one in Garimpo do Baneira. The project was completed with funding from the Carrefour Foundation.
Framework Agreement between GCI and the Government of Brazil
GCI, represented by GC Brazil, and the Brazilian Government, represented by the State of Minas Gerais and the Secretary of Science Technology and Graduate Education, have recently signed an agreement on their commitment to work in concert with one another to protect and sustain water sources in Brazil. The Framework Agreement on Cooperation was signed in May of 2007.
Creation of the HydroEx UNESCO Institute in Brazil
The State of Minas Gerais now has a category II UNESCO Center, the HydroEx UNESCO Institute, which will focus on environmental education and capacity building in the field of water management. Its creation is in response to training and education needs identified during the "Social Rehabilitation of Rural Communities in the State of Minas Gerais" project.
